The Epic Games Store was launched in 2019 after the success of Fortnite, which had a major impact on pop culture and elevated Epic to a whole other level. It allowed the company to create its own storefront, offering a range of games and positioning itself as a competitor to Valve’s Steam platform.

You may leave feeling disappointed if you’re a console gamer. The Epic Games Store is exclusively for PC, so accessing its free games on consoles like the PS5 or Xbox is not an option. If you own a Windows desktop or laptop, take this opportunity to explore the Epic Games Store and benefit from the incredible discounts and deals available. Super Space Club

If you enjoy your lo-fi as much as your sci-fi, you’ll probably enjoy your time with Super Space Club. An indie game from a single developer, this arcade gunner combines vibrant aesthetics with calming, soothing audio from Missouri-based duo Fat Bard. The soundtrack also features a variety of vocal artists from around the globe.

Strapped into their ship, players will need to complete challenges and take on galactic foes in order to complete levels. Better yet, there are five characters, each with their own unique skills and features.

While not a hugely popular game compared to big AAA games, gamers who appreciate musical shoot-em-up bullet-hells will find plenty to enjoy in Super Space Club.

Super Space Club is available via the Epic Games Store. It’s an indie space arcade game with a rating that isn’t available on the Epic Games Store but has an overall Positive ranking on the Steam storefront.

Deadtime Defenders

If you enjoy a single-player storyline while also having the freedom to loot and shoot to your heart’s content, you’ll feel at home with Arcane Embers’ Deadtime Defenders.

It has features like randomly generated loot, customizable swatches to ensure you can look how you want, and different game modes like Assault, Defend, Rescue, Blitz and more. There’s also the advancement of perks you can unlock as you go, allowing you to expand and further develop your play style.

However, before you jump on in, it’s important to note that Deadtime Defenders (according to Steam anyway) is an early access game. So there may still be bugs, glitches and other flaws that might not have yet been ironed out. Even so, if you like to shoot and earn your loot to upgrade yourself as you continue to play, there’s enough variety for you to enjoy with this looter-shooter RPG.

Usually $8, Deadtime Defenders will be available for free via the Epic Games Store next week. This indie game doesn’t have a rating on the Epic Games Store but has an overall Positive ranking on the Steam storefront.

Touch Type Tale

If you’ve never heard of a typing game before, let me explain: You use your keyboard to type out words and instead of creating a boring document, something fun happens like earning money or experience. You use your earnings to progress through the story or other challenges the game has to offer. If that sounds like a neat concept, Touch Type Tale might be a game you should consider investing time in.

The game is set in the world of Minsteria, where you’re the unlikely hero. However, being a hero isn’t as simple as checking in for your regular 9-5. You’ll have to use the power of typing to fight your enemies, whether they’re two-faced nobles or warmongering bandits. It won’t be easy: You’ll have to construct armies, build villages and more, adapting tactical strategies and campaigns.

Touch Type Tale is indie through and through, and was released in November. Since then, it has been met with critical acclaim — becoming the winner of Best Expert Game and the Innovation Award at the German Computer Game Awards.

Usually $20, Touch Type Tale is available for free via the Epic Games Store next week. Epic Games Store users have rated the game 4.7 stars out of 5, and it has an overall Positive ranking on Steam, too.
